Jess, I tried to film him speaking in Mandarin, imitating his teacher. But when I reviewed the clip, it doesn't sound all that authentic.
First, it should be "同学们,你们好" instead of "同学们,你好"。Second, when he points out those CNY couplets (what we pronounce as dui lian, 对联) as he sees them hanging in stores, he actually exclaims to me "妈妈,你看,对联儿!” in a very Chinesey, Beijingy accent. Obviously following the teacher, esp the "dui lianr" part, with the qiaoshe (curling of the tongue). But it's not so obvious in this clip.
They learnt that CNY song in school. ds2 also learnt the same song but he wouldn't sing it for the camera. Typical. When my mil calls and ask them to sing her some songs, they wouldn't either. But when they are not being filmed and are not asked to perform, they keep singing. Boys!
