What do you show your mom when she visits?
Where do you bring her around?
My mom is here to visit us, to spend time with the grandkids, to help me bring a lot of essential stuff over from Spore. She keeps saying she is not interested in sightseeing.
But, she is very interested in what you can find in the wet markets here. Funny, right? Maybe when I get more years of SAHM-hood I'll be like that too.
So she is super curious and eager on our marketing trips (me, H and her). Good thing she and H hit off very well in the first instance. But it is easy to get along well with my mom anyway. Same goes for H.
Hence, actually my mom's visit opened my and H's eyes to what the markets have to offer. Even H, with her 2 yrs stay here, said she has not bought some of the things my mom found. When my mom let her try some of the stuff she bought, she found she liked some of them very much too!
My mom, and Dh, loves this. These fruits are sweet and sour, and more popularly known when made into the child-friendly treat of Haw flakes/ haw cakes and Bingtang Hulu.
These are the syrupy fruits strung on a stick. I can appreciate the taste of one, but not too many at a go. Dh, however, loves this so much. He ate one after another. So we all have my mom to thank for introducing more things to buy and eat?
My mom was fascinated by the many nuts and seeds sold. She went and bought a little of everything to try.
I must say, the pine nuts (still in shell) are very yummy and the kids love the cashew nuts, almonds, peanuts and chesnuts too.
My mom bought a couple of beans too. My family doesn't eat beans all that much, and my mom left a lot behind for me to use. I'll have to find some way to use the soy beans and so on. Mom asked me to make my own soy milk. I'm going to wait for my Magic Bullet to come (the whole set of grinders and blenders are in the boxes), then I'll make. I'm too lazy to do it by hand, using the muslin cloth. Or rather, "where got time"?? :-)
