Moms and Me at the Zoo

Jennifer told me about this event at the zoo and since both our families had not been to the Hogle Zoo at SLC, we decided to go take a look.

It was organised by Macy's (dept store chain), and if we bought a $7 tee from them and wore it then we'd get free admission. Normal admission is $8. Also, there'd be various treats like ice cream, massages and lots of activities for kids...

However, the funny thing is, we didn't do go get any of the treats. There were queues and we felt that our trip there was mainly to see animals, so we thought we wouldn't waste all our time waiting in line.

The kids were naturally super thrilled, cos all kids somehow are fascinated by animals and like to look at them close-up. It was fun and enjoyable for us too, cos it was a refreshing change to catch up and talk to friends. (yup we are making friends, slowly, but there are still very few friends to really talk to here, than back home, of course)

Hogle Zoo is not as world-class as the San Diego Zoo and not as big or had a variety of habitats as the Spore zoo, but for the kids, it didn't matter. And if they are happy, then we parents are too..

And errrm, it's not just us, but the Crills also felt the food there is horrible. All of us couldn't finish even half of the sweet and sour chicken rice bowl, it was that bad. dear dh, who felt that rice is truly too expensive to waste, bravely downed all of his, then drizzled soy sauce over my left over rice (I bravely finished the chicken) and ate it up too. :-) Well, so the Spore zoo wins hands down on variety of food available, and for different budgets too.

Below left: Black bears. Right: elephants (with ds1's head)

Below left: 3 resting giraffes. Right: Me and ds2 in front of the eagles (you can't see the eagles).... And Sammi, this is gd advertisement for your sling... As I carried ds2 around in it, there were many curious looks directed at it. :-)

Below left: The Macy tent for massages. Right: both mummies and all the kids

Peacock above.. the thing is, animals always have their backs to me, and are not strutting their stuff when i am taking a pic. when i lose my patience and just snap a pic then keep the cam, cos kids need my attention or we're moving off, then the animals start the action!

So yup, you guessed it... the peacock began it's wonderful display of his tail right after I kept my cam in the bag. grrrrr...

rainbows every day, do not worry for the morrow
