Just some comments about Project Work and life... :-)

Wow, congrats to hci students on their Project Work results!

Quote:
"It was an excellent result for our 2006 GCE "A' level PW . ...we have 85.4% of students obtaining A (compared to 20.6 % A for national), 99.4% scoring at least B...lowest grade being a grade C in PW. "

I think it's amazing.

I was an oral assessor for the PW presentations before, I think twice, 2003 and 2004? or was it 2004 and 2005? Can't remember all these things now, jia lat.

It's not easy to score highly and not easy to give a super presentation, plus answer impromptu Qs from the assessors and classmates...

I remembered most of the students were very slick in their Powerpoint slide presentation, memorised most of what they had to say, and had many visual aids too. They look very confident and are mostly eloquent. The survey Qs were also good. Far cry from years ago my time...

Then there's preparation for the file too... A lot of time and effort has to go into all these. Students complain all the time, esp when they're explaining why they didn't do well for Bio promos... haha, it's always "Oh we had to do this and that for PW". But I just want to tell them, it is worth it.

So I think PW has been a good thing, it equips students with necessary skills. You won't need a gd memory of theoretical knowledge in life because contrary to sitting for exams, in life you can always refer to a reference text, the internet or whatever resource to find the info you want.

So it is the skills, the confidence, the way you speak and carry yourself.... The way you organize things in a logical manner, coherence of thought and ideas that is impt. Filing, being neat and systematic... Being able to speak to a large audience and field questions comfortably... Answering Qs to the point...In many professions, these will be useful.

So, pat yourselves on the back, you are well-equipped for the next phase of your life! :-)
