We received another package. This time, Angeling packed some stuff and VCDs bought by my mom and asked her good friend Huili (Jen) to send it to me!

Huili is currently in Idaho with her family and they returned to Singapore for CNY. The postage was much cheaper this way of course. Thanks for bringing the parcel back, Huili! And thanks for everything and the packing Angeling, and thanks mom for the VCDs! :-)

The kids and us were so excited to see the familiar goodies from home, esp the fried seaweed that we gobbled up almost all the snacks already. Now only the tomyam paste and instant porridge is left. haha.

I even got an early birthday present from Angeling: A Moms in Mind Cheongsam nursing top. Actually there was a note saying it was my present but I didn't see it and opened the wrapped package. [Left: the model on MIM website wearing the top. Right: the top I received.]

It fits well and I can wear it now if I wear it together with a long sleeved top.

The other thing is, we found another Asian supermarket. It is very very far away from where we stay, about 1 hour away by car. But if dh picks things up after school then it is about 15min away from his school.

This place stocks a lot more stuff we would use, and the turnover rate of their goods seem higher, cos the things look new, not dusty. They also stock a lot of fresh food. And for the first time, we saw pomfret being sold. Somehow, the fish sold in normal marts here are mostly salmon, perch, halibut etc. And cos it is the central mountain region here, seafood is VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. We do not usually eat fish. Now, perhaps it is more possible. For a once-in-a-while treat we will buy the pomfret to fry.

We didn't buy fish that day, but managed to get our hands on frozen fishballs, Shaoxing cooking wine, silken tofu and firm tofu (yay! finally can eat more tofu at cheaper prices)... and can you believe it? We finally found baby corn and button mushrooms in the canned form. Yay yay! I miss the Narcissus mushrooms, but this strange brand I bought will do. It comes close.

So at once, we wanted to eat some of those food yesterday. And decided to do the rice wrap thingy, then we can eat everything tog, just mix them up.

We fried the fishballs, peppers, corn, french beans, egg, got some turkey breast ham, sausages and mixed some garlic/ onion sauce/ chilli bean sauce... And it's set!

We adults enjoyed a lot but the kids didn't like the wrap very much. ds1 did down 2 wraps with various fillings, but thereafter ate only the sausage, egg and baby corn by itself. ds2 totally refused the wrap. It felt and tasted slimy to him, I think. He spat it out with a vengeance.

Of all the ingredients, only the egg looked safe to him and that's all he ate yesterday night, so I had to feed him some cereal, milk and oatmeal cookies as well for supper to fill him up.

Below: dh showing what he put into his first wrap.

Left: dh's completed wrap with a lot of chilli bean paste. So red. Mine on the right.

Notice the wrap is different from our Popiah one which is not made from rice and contains egg. This rice wrap came in the package with has Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and English wordings on it! And it says it was made from water, salt and rice only. We wet the wrap, then start putting ingredients on. Once wet, it wraps well, sticks together well and doesn't tear at all, even if you stretch it. So it is easier to wrap than Popiah.

But popiah can be fried, I don;t think we can fry this.
