Food subject:
Mary, I have only just begun to be thrifty, you know my circumstances now. I used not to care how much things were at the supermarket and just bought what I wanted to eat. If I couldn't finish them, they'd rot in the fridge too. Thanks for your encouraging words though! Motivates me further.
Now, things are different, I have to really save wherever I can. So at supermarket, I can only buy the cheapest things, yet still find a way to make myself and kids eat happily and healthily. I would so much prefer to buy fish, baby corn, more rice, beef, pork... but we can only eat chicken most of the time. And even chicken, we can only buy wings or thighs, cos they are the cheapest parts. People here only like breast meat, so chicken breast is very ex.
Rice is more ex than potatoes and pasta too, so I have to try and use less rice. Then it's so funny... last time I would just wash off the rice stuck on scoop and left in the rice cooker. Now I scrape and lick off every grain before washing. Also I have started eating up all the kids' leftovers, however disgusting. I never used to do that, I'd just throw them away. Dh was even more repulsed by kids' leftovers in the past but now he also guai guai eat up whatever they don't want. Still a lot more egs lah. like how in the past I never use things past their expiry date but now I feel it's such a waste to throw things away and will still try and eat it unless I find the taste really bad. :-)
Jasmine (LAPCOC)? not so sure... do you have a blog? maybe you can tag me with it, i'll go visit and refresh my memory on who you are. I know a Jasmine Kwan but you sound like you have kids too... so it can't be her... :-) yup, he eats all the broccoli if it's in fried or baked rice, but not whole. i'll have to gradually enlarge the pieces... :-) thanks.
New food this week:

Cherry pie. Those interested can get recipe from www.crisco.com. I got it there. By the way, I marked it with "B" cos of the "pat-a-cake" song I used to sing often to my sons. So they could relate to it.
The crust was made from scratch though, not store-bought as stated in the recipe. So it looks so ploopy... :-) Well, signs of a first-timer here, I'll gladly admit. I'll surely invite comments from my sis again, who said my cookies posted earlier look like "Sai4" (shit, in case you din get it). Nvm, I need to post, to show how i spend my days! And in future, when the photos look better, then there's a basis for comparison too. :-)
Anyway the glaze was uneven, so the browning was uneven. Then the pastry top was uneven too, and the cherry filling oozed out messily... I will troubleshoot and make something better next time!
Then chicken thighs again. Same recipe as chicken wings. Not fried, but roasted, no need to put any oil.
This doesn't look good at all... Again, looks like mush... but it is Punch: Lime sherbet, Pineapple juice, 7-Up. Tried it because someone at church made it for potluck and it tasted so wonderful. Think I still prefer Coke with Vanilla ice cream.
This one is really welcome, by the kids. They love fries but fries bought outside are more ex and more unhealthy. Tried before, with my mom and by myself but they couldn't stay crispy for long. So I scrutinized several recipes on the Net and found a good way to make golden fries the McDonalds' way.
Think the key lies in soaking the fries in ice cold water for 1 hour, then frying them, but only for 10min, then freezing them overnight. Next day, fry again until golden. Somehow then, they are super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Very shiok.

rainbows every day, do not worry for the morrow
