(Last day in California)
We decided to explore the area our motel was before we drove off to Las Vegas since it was near the beach. This area is called Encinitas.
We noticed many aloe-type of plants growing around here and San Diego, not sure if that is of any significance. But we just found the bloom of this succulent plant amusing. and there were so many of them.

We reached the beach area. It was very different from Santa Monica or Malibu at LA. The sand's different and the sea or rather the Pacific Ocean was flanked by high cliffs. So there were some steep stone steps to navigate before reaching the beach.

It was again, cold, because it was quite early in the morning, so we didn't venture into the water. Anyway I wanted the kids to minimise their change of clothes so I won't have to wash much. I didn't bring many changes of clothing on this trip.
It was beautiful, a natural, raw kind of beauty. Below: the steps all the way down.

ds2 seemed to enjoy just gazing at the horizon and hearing the splashing sound of the waves. He was quite awed by the huge surf. Very strong powerful current and very loud crashing of waves indeed. No one was in the water then although there was a fair number walking along the beach. I think it'd be too cold and dangerous to swim in those waters.
ds1 enjoyed making some sandcastles.

dh and I just wandered around, picking and admiring the pebbles that are pounded so smooth by wave action. i saw quite a lot of dead fish and seaweed too.. then i thought i saw a jellyfish because it was transparent and had a cap, almost took a picture before i realised what it was... oh ok...
Below: the flora and fauna of the beach

After that we begun on our drive home... and will stop by Las Vegas for a night, just to break up the journey actually... it is a long drive...
Bye bye California! See you again, hopefully (Yosemite and Redwood next)!
rainbows every day, do not worry for the morrow
